Thursday Night
Gladys had been at the party for two hours. She was so tired of talking to strangers. They
would say hello and how are you and she would return with good, how are you. This happened
several times before she went and sat in a secluded corner and was promptly ignored.
Gladys was relieved she didn't have to talk, but now her mind was roaming freely and Gladys
had no control. She was just telling her mind to shut up and when someone came over to her and sat
down. It was a guy who had been staring at her for some time, but Gladys had ignored him. She
suddenly regretted being secluded. He did not seem like a nice man.
"Hey, what's your name?" He had alcohol on his breath.
"It's I don't want to talk to you," Gladys growled. You had to be firm with idiots like this guy.
He blinked his eyes and swayed back, almost falling over. "Hey, I'm just tryin' to be nice."
Gladys rolled her eyes, "Whatever, just leave me alone."
The man got up and walked away, bottle in hand. Gladys sighed in relief, she so did not need
another fake person to deal with. That's what everyone was. Fake and horrible. Just like her. She
stopped and immediately Josh and Tyler came to mind. She knew they weren't fake. They were
amazing. Gladys really wished she was good enough for them, but she knew she would only bring
them down. Because she didn't deserve amazing friends like that, she was stupid and pathetic. No,
she would never have anything good.
With these thoughts going through her mind, she went into the bathroom and locked the door.
She grabbed her knife and held it uncertainly. Did she really want to cut? It kinda scared her how
often she was cutting. Maybe she could just open the other ones, just for a bit of pain. That would
be fine, right? Gladys jerked her head firmly. She had to, her mind would kill her if she didn't. It
was practically screaming for death. But that would have to wait.
Gladys looked at the knife again. Why would it have to wait? What else did this world have to
take away? Gladys swallowed and thought about how she would accomplish it. Maybe just slit her
throat? Gladys didn't know if she could actually do that, it would be very painful and scary. She sank
to the floor with a thud and sobbed. How had she come this far, how could she contemplate killing
herself?
She remembered what her parents had said when one of the high schoolers had committed
suicide. They had said it was selfish and stupid.
Gladys didn't want to be selfish, she just wanted to be free. Free of all the guilt and sadness.
She just wanted to be happy.
So, as she was sobbing in the bathroom, Gladys heard someone knock on the door. She quickly
wiped her face, pocketed her knife and opened the door. It was the man from before. He looked at
her and she knew he saw her tears.
Then with a jolt, she had realized she had forgotten to cover her wrists. He looked at those too.
Now she really wanted to sink into the floor. She hurriedly covered them and walked away briskly.
He was drunk, he wouldn't remember. Gladys made it back to her chair and told herself she was safe,
but her pounding heart wouldn't listen.
Who was he? Gladys got a little more worried when she thought, what if he told someone?
Gladys clenched her shaking hands and tried to calm herself as she waited for Sierra. Hopefully,
it wouldn't be too long.
She waited there for another two-hours before she fell asleep.
In the morning, Gladys searched the whole house, but Sierra was nowhere to be found.
What happened?
Gladys was so worried she didn't notice someone walking out of one of the rooms.
It was that man again. She slammed into him and he caught her before she fell. His eyes lit up
in recognition and Gladys groaned inwardly. He remembered.
