Thursday
Gladys was not okay. She had made it through school yesterday, but now she wasn't even sure she
could make it to her dresser. She had woken up fine but then almost immediately the dark thoughts
returned. Now here she was sitting on her bed in her PJs, looking at the knife in her hands. She was
tired. She couldn't remember the last time she had been happy. Worse, she thought she didn't deserve
happiness. No, it was only pain for her. That's all she deserved. Gladys blinked furiously, trying
not to cry. She deserved this, there would be no pity for her. She was a worthless person. She had no
friends because she wasn't worth it. To anyone. Gladys opened the knife and dragged the blade
across her wrists, relishing the pain she deserved.
Gladys watched as her wrists bled, spilling all over her arms and pant leg. She wondered if she
would die from bleeding to death.
Before she could find out, her phone rang. She quickly ran into the bathroom and cleaned off her
wrist. Then she ran back over to her phone while holding a few paper towels to the wound. She
looked at the number, it was Sierra. Reluctantly, Gladys answered it.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Gladdy!"
Gladys winced at Sierra's screechy voice. "Hey, Sierra. What's up?"
Gladys could hear her giggling and telling someone to stop. "Who's with you, Sierra?"
Sierra stopped giggling and Gladys knew she was lying when she said, "No one. Anyways, I was
wondering if you could come to a party with me tonight? I need a chaperone."
Gladys could hear more giggling. She rolled her eyes and gave in, "Okay. What time?"
Sierra squealed on the other side of the phone.
Gladys shook her head and groaned. Her friends were so fake. "Sierra?"
Sierra answered briskly. "Um, how 'bout 7? Um, I got to go, see you there!"
Before Gladys could answer, Sierra, hung up the phone.
Gladys scrunched her eyes shut and took a few breaths. Why did she have such fake friends?
Then she remembered, it was because she was a fake friend. She squeezed her bleeding wrist,
digging her nails into the long cut. She held back a gasp of pain as tears came to her eyes.
Gladys shook the tears from her face and bit her tongue. She needed this. This is what she
deserved. She was not okay. She did not deserve to be okay. She was worthless. Gladys held her
breath. She didn't know how much longer she could handle this life. She released her wrist and
proceeded to bandage it.
She got dressed and walked out the door, tucking her trusty knife in her back pocket. She
sighed in relief as she stood at the bus stop. Being outside helped her clear her thoughts.
While she was waiting, Tyler and Josh came up to her and they exchanged greetings. Tyler
was still pale, but seemed happier with Josh's hand on his shoulder. Gladys glanced enviously at Josh.
He was so supportive. Why couldn't she have someone like that?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was 6:30pm. Gladys had been ready for 20 minutes, early as usual. She obsessively
looked at the clock every few seconds. Her heart started to beat wildly and she clenched her
wrist, hoping the pain would calm her nerves.
It only made it worse.
By the time Sierra showed up, Gladys had cut herself again. She hurriedly bandaged it up before she
answered the door.
Sierra smiled at Gladys and Gladys couldn't help but think how fake her friend was.
"Hey, girl. Ready to par-tay?" Gladys almost laughed in her face. Sierra was so fake.
Gladys couldn't believe she had ever thought this was her friend.
Gladys attempted to smile as she said, "Yeah, let's do it."
Sierra didn't seem to notice the look in Glayds' eyes or the plastered smile on Gladys' face.
"Okay, let's get some guys begging for us!" Sierra winked.
Gladys almost vomited right there and then. Sierra just wanted her to come as a cover for her
to do stuff with a guy? Ew.
Gladys smiled grudgingly. "Sure."
Sierra just laughed. "Okay. I'm meeting Tommy there. Don't mess it up for me. Okay?"
Gladys nodded. "I most definitely won't," sarcasm dripping from her words like poison.
Sierra obliviously nodded.
They got in the car and Gladys had the feeling she was really going to regret this night.

I think number 13 is redeemed. Maybe it's my lucky number now. *wink, wink* Gladys needs better friends. Good, colorful imagery.
ReplyDeleteEw! Sierra is so gross. Gladys does not need her as a friend. Wondering if Josh and Tyler will be at the party, but I guess I'll have to read the next post. It doesn't seem like it would be their scene though.
ReplyDeleteyeah gross. theyd never be there. sorry spoilers. *wink* sorry julia im just too good.

Glad the boys aren't going to be there. Although I wouldn't mind if they whisked in and rescued Gladys from this.
